Barcelona to use Ronald Araújo sale money to sign Inter Milan star
Barcelona’s recent defeat to Inter Milan has intensified speculation over Ronald Araújo’s future at the club.
The Uruguayan international has come under heavy criticism in recent weeks due to his performances, and it’s clear he has fallen behind both Pau Cubarsí and Iñigo Martínez in the pecking order.
With a special €70 million release clause active during the first ten days of July, there’s a growing possibility that the defender could leave Barcelona this coming summer.
Barcelona Eyeing Alessandro Bastoni
As Barcelona look to reinforce their defense amidst the possible departure of Araújo, the club appears to have already identified an ideal replacement.
According to Fichajes, Barça are targeting Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni as a potential successor to Araújo for next season.
The club, led by sporting director Deco, is closely monitoring the Italian international. Bastoni is seen as the perfect profile for what the team currently needs.
The 26-year-old has a wealth of experience at the highest level, having played over 200 Serie A matches. His experience and leadership make him an ideal target for Barcelona.
Bastoni notably impressed against Barça as Inter Milan secured a memorable 7–6 aggregate victory over Hansi Flick’s men last week.
However, securing Bastoni’s services won’t be easy. Inter Milan are not keen to let go of their star defender, who is under contract until 2028.
The Italian giants have enough leverage to demand a hefty transfer fee. Therefore, unless Barcelona generate significant funds through the sale of Araújo, it’s unlikely they will be able to finance a move for the Italian international.
