Real Madrid’s recent win over Valencia at Mestalla brought mixed feelings. While Carlo Ancelotti celebrated the top spot in La Liga and highlighted his team’s excellent second-half response, the coach did not hide his concern over the poor performance shown in the first 45 minutes.
Among these, there are three names that keep coming up in the Santiago Bernabéu offices: Rodrygo Goes, Ferland Mendy and Aurelien Tchouameni.
The club president, Florentino Pérez, together with general manager José Ángel Sánchez, are analyzing the situation of these players, who are far from living up to the expectations placed on them by the club.
Although the Italian coach continues to support them publicly, the internal message is clear: they must make a leap in quality, especially at a time of the season when every game is decisive.
The players who have disappointed with their performances this season
According to the Spanish website Defensa Central, Rodrygo, who has emerged as one of the big stars in the Whites’ attack, showed a very poor level against Valencia.
For his part, Mendy remains unconvincing on the left, with doubts in defence and in his offensive contribution. Tchouameni, who was signed to add to the midfield, has not shown the level required of him, which is causing concern among the board members.
Although Ancelotti claims to be satisfied with the current squad, he does not rule out making important decisions next summer if performances do not improve.
Upcoming commitments, such as the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup, are presented as an opportunity to replace these players. However, if they fail to prove themselves, Florentino could give the green light for a restructuring in 2025.
