Marca Announces Sanctions for Real Madrid Trio Sent Off Against Barcelona in Copa del Rey Final

Disciplinary Committee Sanctions Rüdiger and Lucas Vázquez; Clears Bellingham
The Disciplinary Committee has issued sanctions following the incidents in the Copa del Rey final. Antonio Rüdiger has been handed a six-match suspension, Lucas Vázquez will serve a two-match ban, while Jude Bellingham escapes punishment, as his red card has been overturned. These disciplinary actions represent another consequence for Real Madrid after their defeat in the Clásico.
Rüdiger to Miss Six Matches While Injured
Rüdiger’s suspension, although significant, is expected to have limited impact on the team’s immediate future. The German defender is currently sidelined with an injury expected to keep him out for approximately six weeks, effectively ruling him out for the remainder of the La Liga season, which has just five matches left. As the suspension exceeds four matches, it will extend beyond the Copa del Rey and into other competitions.
Lucas Vázquez Faces Two-Game Ban
Lucas Vázquez’s suspension is restricted to Copa del Rey fixtures. With his contract expiring in June and his future at the club uncertain, there’s a possibility the player may not even serve the suspension with Real Madrid should he move on in the summer.
Bellingham Cleared of Wrongdoing
Real Madrid successfully appealed Bellingham’s red card by submitting video evidence demonstrating that the England international did not act in the manner described in the referee’s official report. The report claimed that Bellingham approached the match officials aggressively after the final whistle and had to be restrained by teammates. The committee found the evidence insufficient to uphold the red card.
Referee’s Official Explanations
Referee De Burgos outlined the reasoning behind the expulsions in his match report. Regarding Rüdiger, he stated: “In the 120th minute, player (22) Rüdiger, Antonio was sent off for throwing an object from the technical area without hitting me. Following the red card, he had to be restrained by several members of the technical staff, displaying an aggressive attitude.”
As for Lucas Vázquez, the report read: “In the 120th minute, player (17) Vázquez Iglesias, Lucas was sent off for protesting one of our decisions, stepping several meters onto the field and making gestures of disagreement.”
